The Journey of MoCL
“I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase.” (1 Cor. 3:6)
The Seed: Abide
The journey of Mind of Christ Light (MoCL) is part of a much older story — the story of salvation.
It begins in the Upper Room, where Christ, the true Vine, gave Himself in the Mystical Supper and commanded His disciples: “Abide in Me, and I in you.” (John 15:4).
From that table of love, the apostles went out, filled with the fiery Spirit of Pentecost, preaching to every nation. Among them, St. Mark the Evangelist brought the Gospel to Alexandria, planting the seed of the Coptic Orthodox Church — a vineyard rooted in Christ, watered by the Spirit, and alive until this day.
Abiding in Him has always been the first step of the journey: in the liturgy, in praise, in prayer, and in the fellowship of His Body.
“Abide in Me, and I in you”
Deep Roots: Rooted
Through centuries, the Church in Egypt grew deep roots in Christ, through the teaching of the Fathers, the witness of the saints, and the ascetic wisdom of the desert.
From St. Anthony the Great, whose solitary life gave birth to monasticism, to the monasteries that remain living wells of prayer, the desert became the furnace of renewal for the whole Church.
In modern times, this depth flowed into parish life in Alexandria. Fr. Bishoy Kamel sowed seeds of discipleship at St. George Church, teaching generations to live as branches rooted in the Vine. Later, Fr. Tadros Y. Malaty extended these roots by making the patristic heritage accessible with clarity and pastoral love.
“Rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith.”
One Body: Unity
The fruit of being rooted in Christ is unity, life as one Body in Him.
From the apostolic age until today, the same Spirit gathers us into communion: one Lord, one faith, one baptism.
The journey of MoCL flows within this same tradition: from the apostles to the Fathers, from the martyrs to the monastics, from St. George Church in Alexandria to the digital cathedral of today.
We remember those who spoke the Word of life (Hebrews 13:7), but we look to Christ as the Head of His Body (Ephesians 4:15–16). Our hope is the day when He will be all in all (1 Corinthians 15:28).
“…that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You.”
The Open Door: Welcome
The Coptic Church is a Church of martyrs. From St. Stephen, the first martyr, to St. Mark, to the saints of every century, even to the martyrs of Libya in our own times, the witness of blood has kept the door of faith open for the world.
Their lives declare that the Gospel is not the possession of a few, but an open invitation to all peoples and all nations.
As Christ Himself promised: “I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it.” (Revelation 3:8).
“I have set before you an open door. and no one can shut it”
Christ at the Center: Reflection
Through every step: abiding, rooting, uniting, and welcoming; the journey leads always to one place: Christ Himself.
The purpose is not information, but transformation: the kenosis of the heart (Philippians 2:5), the renewal of the mind (Romans 12:2), and participation in the living Truth (1 John 1:1–3).
This is the story of Scripture, of the Fathers, of the martyrs and saints, and it is our story too: humanity restored to the Father’s bosom, the paradise of joy.
Closing Invitation
This journey continues. We invite you to walk with us as pilgrims of light: abiding in Christ, rooted in His Word, living as one Body in His Spirit, and passing through the open door of His Kingdom.
“For here we have no continuing city, but we seek the one to come.”
